Touch and Go Records Will Reissue Slint’s Seminal 1991 Album Spiderland on Tax Day; Slint Will Play Ten East Coast Dates in Support
You’ve never heard of Slint?!?!?!?
WHAT – THE – FUCK – DUUUUUUDE???????
Okay, let’s backtrack — have you heard of the planet Earth? Well, there’s a country on Earth called America, and in this country there’s a state called Kentucky. In said state there is a city named Louisville, and at the center of the famous early 90s Louisville scene there was an amazing band called Slint.
The band’s most famous album Spiderland is now getting one hell of a facelift in the form of a sexy deluxe box set (to be released via Touch and Go Records on April 15th) that will include 14 previously unreleased outtakes and demos and a newly remastered version of the album (from the original analog masters) by Bob Weston, all being pressed on 180 gram vinyl. The box set also comes with CDs of all the music, a 104-page book with never-before-seen photos, lyrics, and a foreword by Will Oldham, and Breadcrumb Trail, a 90-minute documentary on DVD about the making of Spiderland directed by Lance Bangs. The film includes interviews with the band, plus James Murphy, Steve Albini, David Yow, Ian MacKaye, Matt Sweeney, and others.
I saw the film last week in a special Brooklyn screening, and it is a really great insight into this seminal band’s history. This may be your only chance to see the very well-made documentary, unfortunately (although I suspect it will pop up as a stand-alone DVD release eventually).
The box set is only available in a limited run of 3,138 copies (why that number, I do not know), so order one today! (UPDATE: it’s sold out….sowwy)
