Rampant Rumors

Meshuggah to Tour the U.S. in June (and Play Bonnaroo)

Meshuggah - Euroblast 2013

Bonaroo has announced the first slate of bands set to appear at this year’s festival, and fortunately for any MetalSucks readers who lives in or around Manchester, TN (60 miles outside of Nashville) there are exactly three bands you’ll be interested in seeing: Meshuggah, Mastodon and Deafheaven. Or if you’ve got an open mind, maybe more: giving this list a quick once-over, I’d definitely peep A Tribe Called Quest, Janelle Monae, Lucero, Ice Cube (!), Chvrches and Goat, maybe discover something new. Sometimes a band you’ve never heard of ends up being the best thing you saw the entire festival, nay, all year.

Right, Meshuggah! With this announcement it seems a near certainty they’ll be touring North American in June. They could fly all this way for just one show, but it doesn’t seem likely for a festival at which metal is far from the focus and Meshuggah are so far down in the billing (seriously, who the fuck are the Carolina Chocolate Drops and how could they possibly be more popular than Meshuggah??). The band also said they’d be playing North America festival dates to celebrate their 25th anniversary in a statement they released earlier this month. But here’s the thing: what other festivals even exist that would book a band like Meshuggah? Unless they were talking about the Mayhem Festival (certainly possible, but not really a destination “festival” in the manner Meshuggah implied), I can’t think of any. Maybe Scion is doing another one? Also possible. But I can hardly imagine Meshuggah would come here for just two shows. They’ll be playing more, you can bet on it.

Mastodon, of course, are touring with Gojira and Kvelertak. Deafheaven tour all the time. So this is big news.

In conclusion: MESHUGAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!

Also, just because, let’s watch this Meshuggah / Wolf of Wall Street mashup video once more:
