Preaching Biblical to a New Choir: “Second Sight”
Pitchfork’s writeup of “Second Sight,” a song by a new band called Biblical, is heavy on certain band members’ association with Death From Above 1979 drummer/singer Sebastien Grainger. While that might carry weight with a few MS readers (no disrespect meant to Grainger or Death From Above whatsoever), I think comparing Biblical’s music to a few touchstones more in the realm of our own musical palette would be a lot more useful here: guitar atmospherics that call to mind Jupiter-era Cave In smash face-first into almost Lemmy-esque vocals, and the results are not only engaging, not just catchy, but full on rocking and rolling. If “Second Sight” doesn’t at least invoke a minor head-bob, you oughtta get your neck muscles checked. Biblical also remind me of a somewhat obscure ’00s British rock band called Pure Reason Revolution… that name ring any bells for anyone?
