Is Justin Bieber the Worst Thing to Happen to Metallica’s “Fade to Black” Since James Hetfield Caught on Fire?

On August 8, 1992 — just five days after James Hetfield’s twenty-ninth birthday — Metallica were forced to cut a concert short when, early on during “Fade to Black,” James Hetfield found himself standing in an unsafe location on the stage and got blasted by the pyro, suffering second and third-degree burns in the process.

As a result of this story and footage, the begining of “Fade to Black” has basically been completely ruined for me; I can’t hear the intro without thinking of the music suddenly cutting out as James Hetfield is turned into a human pizza, fresh outta the oven.

But now Noisey has found a video so horrific that it may actually supply me with a new trauma to flash back to whenever I hear this song. Thanks a bunch, fellas.

Oh well. Still better than St. Anger.
