Ghost and Dave Grohl to Release Covers EP; Listen to Their Take on Roky Erickson’s “If You Have Ghosts” Now
In case Infestissumam just wasn’t enough Ghost to satisfy you in 2013, dig this: according to The PRP and Metal Insider, on November 20 the Swedish ghouls will release a covers EP, If You Have Ghost, as a 12″ vinyl and a bonus CD on a new super-duper deluxe edition the aforementioned Infestissumam.
Furthermore, the covers were all recorded Dave Grohl, presumably as part of the sessions which produced Ghost’s version of ABBA’s “I’m A Marionette,” which served as an Infestissumam B-side.
Further furthermore (furthermorer?), the EP’s de facto title track — a cover of Roky Erickson’s “If You Have Ghosts” — has now leaked online. Listen while you can:

And here’s the ABBA cover, if you’ve never heard it before:
In addition to these two tracks, the EP will feature covers of Depeche Mode’s “Waiting for the Night” (pretty much every metal musician I’ve ever met has a secret or not-so-secret love of Depeche Mode) and Army of Lovers’ “Crucified,” as well as a live recording of “Secular Haze.”
I think Ghost are one of those bands that usually do covers right — they make the songs their own, and don’t just record rote re-creations. Combine that with Grohl’s involvement, and, well, yeah, I’m pretty darn to curious to hear this thing… particularly the Army of Lovers cover, because the original is so incredibly un-metal that it just begs for a total overhaul. Fingers crossed that this ends up being really cool!
