The Department of Islamic Development of Malaysia Objects to “Evil and Anti-Divine” Lamb of God Performance
The next time Dave Mustaine wants to compare America to The Third Reich, he should keep this in mind. According to The Star Online, The Department of Islamic Development of Malaysia (Jakim) is trying to prevent Lamb of God from playing in Kuala Lumpur on September 28.
Why? According to a statement by Jakim’s director-general, Datuk Othman Mustapha (pictured above), LoG “incorporates evil and anti-divine spiritual elements in its performance.” Holy shit, what a recommendation! Lamb of God should include that quote in all the ads for their next album. Cha-ching!
ANYWAY, the article continues:
“Othman said the objection was in accordance with the decision of the Fatwa (Edicts) Committee that the practices and acts of black metal groups were misguided and contrary to the true teachings of Islam.
“As such, Jakim feared that the performance in the country of heavy metal groups would revive the black metal trend, he said.
“Othman said it was hoped that the authorities would not approve the performance of the Lamb of God by taking into consideration the sensitivities of Muslims and to ensure that it did not open up crises related to faith and morality.”
“Oh my God, what a poseur!” replied metal nerds across the globe with a snort of laughter. “Lamb of God don’t play black metal! DUH!!!”
On a semi-related note, I’d just like to point out that this group apparently took no issue with Wes Borland teaching guitar to their young. If that’s not evil and anti-divine, nothing is.
