The Safety Fire Guitarist Has a Literal Mouth of Swords After Gruesome Bicycle Accident

The bad news is that The Safety Fire guitarist Derya “Dez” Nagle was in a pretty messy bicycle accident last week in which he messed up his face and front teeth pretty thoroughly. The good news is that, thanks to modern medical science, he’ll come out alright on the other side after several rounds of corrective surgery. AND the band won’t even have to miss any tour dates. Cosmic twins with Cave In’s Stephen Brodsky, another metal notable to sustain bike-related injuries last week? I whole-heartedly endorse Anso’s bubble-wrap plan.

The Safety Fire broke the news Thursday via Facebook:

The lid himself, your boy playgle aka Dezzo, was in a road accident last night. He is going to have to undergo surgery soon to fix his face and teeth, so send him some love. Fortunately his wizard fingers are fine, so while his face may not be quite as pretty, it won’t effect any of our tour dates. TSF x

Dez,who once detailed his live setup for us in a Rigged feature, updated the world on Friday via Facebook as well:

Thanks to everyone for their support and concern over the last couple of days. Unfortunately I was involved in a cycling accident and landed on the right side of my face. I had my first surgery today and will be having a few more over the coming weeks. Few weeks of rest and all will be well. Albeit with a few more scars.

We’re just glad Dez is alright, though it certainly won’t be fun going through all those surgeries.
