Black Sheep Wall Begin Again
HUZZAH! Black Sheep Wall, whose excellent No Matter Where it Ends was one of Vince’s favorite albums of 2012, have a new three-song EP called It Begins Again (Ends… Begins… noticing a theme here?), which you can stream via the below YouTube video. As of this writing, I’ve just completed my first listen of the thing and I’m now scrambling to pick my teeth up off the floor. Vince has described the band’s music as “sludgy, nasty, dark, abrasive, and crushing,” which is totally apt. While the first song, “Ancient Fvck,” has the most entertaining name, the second track on the EP, “Provider,” is currently my favorite. (The final track is called “Evangelic Exorcism,” FYI.)
Here’s a statement from vocalist Trae Malone on It Begins Again:
“For this EP, I thought we could do something special. We decided to record our new material with BLACK SHEEP WALL’s original vocalist, Jeff Ventimiglia. Everyone has been so welcoming of my presence in the group, since the beginning, so I thought it would be a nice gesture, to all the individuals that have supported us, through the years. I have been a fan/friend of Jeff’s for years. Regarding the music, I listen to a lot of doom/sludge/grundge, new and old. Most of it is from Europe. With this EP, I really wanted to tap into some of the traditional tones of that genre. It just feels like an organic progression of the music, it just feels right. This EP felt good to get out.”
Do yourself a favor and check out It Begins Again below. It will be released exclusively as a limited edition 10″ sometime this summer — there’s still no official release date yet, as it’s still being pressed. But we’ll be sure to remind you about the EP once the release date has been announced.
