Evile Visit the “Underworld”
Thrash is cannibalizing itself. On their new song “Underworld,” Evile sound like Trivium when Trivium sounded like Metallica (a.k.a. The Crusade era). I think you can really chalk it up to the vocals more than the actual music — Matt Drake sounds almost as much like a young James Hetfield as Matt Heafy does sometimes — but personally, I don’t find the music entertaining enough to make the vocals not distracting. (I know that was an oddly worded phrase, but hopefully you understand what I mean.) Even as one of the better rethrash bands, I dunno that Evile were ever as good as, say, Municipal Waste.
Of course, you are always free to disagree with me. So I invite you to check out “Underworld” for yourself. It’s streaming over at The Deciblog. It will appear on Evile’s new album, Skull, which comes out May 27 in Europe via Earache Records, and June 11 in North America via Century Media/Earache Records.
