Three Cheers for Black Table

Reason #11,689,432 why I owe Decibel a collective beer: they have now introduced me to Black Table, a local New York/New Jersey band that I’m sure someone else probably told me to check out at some point, but who I did not actually check out until just now because I’m a dick.

ANYWAY, the quartet just released a new EP, Sentinel, which I’ve been rocking all day, and which is just A++++ WDBWA material. It’s very NYC/NJ, which I mean as a compliment; by turns bleak, proggy, capital-“E” Evil, and dreamy, it’s music clearly designed by people who live in an area where everyone hates everyone else for no particular reason, and the weather renders it basically uninhabitable for half the year anyway. Can music be neurotic even if it’s not made by a band called “Neurosis”? I listen to Sentinel and I can practically hear the therapy sessions.

You can stream Sentinel below and purchase it here. Head over to The Deciblog to read Dan Lake’s far more eloquent assessment of the band’s music, as well an as interview with the band. You can also keep up with Black Table on Facebook.
