Rivers of Nihil Sign with Metal Blade
YESSSSSSSSSSSS.
One of MetalSucks’ favorite unsigned bands is no longer an unsigned band: Metal Blade have scooped up Pennsylvania’s Rivers of Nihil. Vince has been raving about these guys all year, and although I was already sweet on their recorded music, I didn’t get to see them live until their tour with Kamikabe last month. And they more than lived up to the hype — and that despite shitty sound in the venue. Not only do their songs rip, but they have a level of stage presence that you don’t see in local bands very often (thus being awesome despite less-than-ideal sonic circumstances). So their Metal Blade debut is now one of my most heavily-anticipated releases of next year.
Further aiding my excitement: Erik Rutan, who has also been raving about these dudes for awhile now, will produce their Metal Blade debut. Rutan albums pretty much ALWAYS sound ridiculously good; if you’re a young death metal band, you could not hope for a better producer. So that’s great news, too.
And FURTHER further aiding my excitement: the below demo for a new Rivers of Nihil song, “Rain Eater.” OH. MY. FUCKING. GOD. This track ripped me two new ones. TWO! Metal Blade’s announcement of the signing compares RoN to “Morbid Angel, Gojira, Spawn of Possession and Decapitated,” which is obviously BIG TALK — but this song suggests that the band can back it up.
AND OH YEAH DID I MENTION THAT THE FINAL VERSION WILL BENEFIT FROM ERIK RUTAN PRODUCTION?
Fuck me naked with a spoon. This album is gonna rule. I’m sure I’ll be bothering you about it much more next year. In the meantime, you can get better acquainted with Rivers of Nihil via Facebook.
