NEILSTEIN SOUNDSCAM: BETWEEN THE BURIED AND AWESOME ALBUM SALES
Holy crapticles! What a huge week for metal: Coheed and Cambria, Between the Buried and Me and The Acacia Strain all made massive splashes with their new albums, while Enslaved, Converge and Sylosis also had quite respectable first weeks. Numbers for those and more after the jump.
1 KISS – MONSTER
Last week: 56,395 (debut)
More like “monsterly disappointing” to Gene Simmons. Sure, that number seems like a lot, but it’s nothing compared to what this band has done historically and I’m sure Gene is pissed. Whatever, fuck this band, does anyone under the age of 50 really care about new Kiss music?
2 COHEED AND CAMBRIA – AFTERMAN: ASCENSION
Last week: 49,713 (debut)
HOLY FUCK, when did this band become so popular??
3 BETWEEN THE BURIED & ME – PARALLAX II: FUTURE SEQUENCE
Last week: 17,132 (debut)
That is a MASSIVE number for a band with 15-minute long songs consisting of screaming vocals. By comparison, their 2011 EP debuted with around 11k first week, The Great Misdirect debuted with around 13.5k and Colors debuted with around 12.5k in 2007. Congrats, BTBAM and Metal Blade!
5 ACACIA STRAIN – DEATH IS THE ONLY MORTAL
Last week: 8,609 (debut)
Continent debuted with 5.5k in 2008 and Wormwood debuted with 6.4k in 2010. Amazing that this band is still on the up and up.
6 NONPOINT – NONPOINT
Last week: 7,346
I don’t have Nonpoint historicals handy, but without knowing anything about how their past albums performed I can surmise that 7,346 units first week is a damn healthy number for a 3rd-tier nu-metal act (and I give that label as a compliment!).
9 CONVERGE – ALL WE LOVE WE LEAVE BEHIND
Last week: 6,413 (debut)
Also don’t have Converge historicals handy, but in the abstract that’s a fantastic number for any hardcore band.
14 AUGUST BURNS RED PRESENTS: SLEDDIN’ HILL A HOLIDAY ALBUM 2012
Last week: 3,258 (debut)
15 TEXAS IN JULY – TEXAS IN JULY
Last week: 3,156 (debut)
19 DIO – VOL. 2-VERY BEAST OF DIO
Last week: 2,367 (debut)
20 ENSLAVED – RIITIIR
Last week: 2,299 (debut)
According to Nuclear Blast, this is Enslaved highest ever first week number in the U.S. More congrats and high fives!
24 SYLOSIS – MONOLITH
Last week: 1,736
In an ideal world Sylosis would sell more albums than Kiss, Coheed and Combria and Between the Buried and Me combined, but in our less-than-perfect world I think that 1,700 is actually a decent U.S. for them considering they’ve barely toured here. This is another stellar album from a consistently stellar band; read Axl’s review.
25 TRASH TALK
Last week: 1,633 (debut)
29 69 EYES*THE – X
Last week: 1,410 (debut)
65 DANKO JONES – ROCK & ROLL IS BLACK & BLUE
Last week: 603 (debut)
I thought this band was, like, really popular and stuff? That’s a pathetic debut.
79 DEFILER – NEMATOCERA
Last week: 480 (debut)
I thought this band was, like, also really popular or something. What the?! Don’t people listen to Sergeant D?
83 WEDNESDAY 13 – WEDNESDAY 13-SPOOK & DESTROY
Last week: 436 (debut)
