THIRD TRAILER FOR SACRUM PROFANUM FOCUSES ON NERGAL’S BATTLE WITH LEUKEMIA
I’ve definitely had some fun at the expense of the first two trailers for Nergal’s upcoming autobiography, Sacrum Profanum (trailer #1, trailer #2), which were simultaneously really beautiful and maybe just a little bit too pretentious for their own good. But even a smart-ass like me is hard pressed to make jokes about the book’s latest trailer, which focuses, in harrowing detail, on the Behemoth frontman’s battle with leukemia.
Unlike the other trailers — and I think this was actually a very intelligent choice, given the subject matter — this one plays less like a Calvin Klein cologne ad and more like a horror movie. There are still some elements which some might find to be overwrought (“I was pierced like Jesus Christ,” Nergal proclaims at one point) but, again, context is everything, and the context here certainly allows for a loftier tone. Also, I mean, it’s Nergal; if there was no anti-Christian sentiment in the thing, we’d all be pretty surprised.

Sacrum Profanum will be released in Poland next month; Polish speakers can pre-order it here. Translations in other languages have yet to be announced.
