EX-COHEED & CAMBRIA BASSIST PLEADS GUILTY TO DRUG ROBBERY, HAS BEEN DIAGNOSED WITH CANCER

Last summer’s report that (now ex-)Coheed & Cambria bassist Michael Todd threatened to blow up a drugstore in Massachusetts for prescription painkillers was incredibly sad, made all the more sad by the fact that some folks in my inner circle grew up with Todd in Upstate New York. Today’s news just heaps on the sad and then keeps bringing more and more.
The Boston Globe is reporting that after pleading guilty to the charges, Todd has been sentenced to one year of home confinement, three years of probation, and to continue receiving treatment for drug addiction while submitting to random drug tests. Home confinement doesn’t sound like fun, but at least it’s not jail. But that one silver lining is ripped apart by this next bit: according to The Boston Sun Chronicle, Todd “reportedly has been diagnosed with cancer,” although Todd’s lawyer Jason Benzaker declined to comment on the matter.
This sucks all around, and there’s no other way to put it. We wish Todd a speedy recovery both from his addiction, and, if the reports are true, cancer.
