OMG! AN OLD MAN GLOOM TOUR!
Update, 1:42pm EDT: Added May 5th show in Richmond, VA.
Original post:
Yesterday afternoon our good friend Rich Hall of 1000 Knives announced an Old Man Gloom date in Brooklyn in May, sending the metalsphere of a certain age and ilk into a tizzy (yours truly included). The last and only time I saw Old Man Gloom was at the long-shuttered NYC club Brownies with Cave In and Scissorfight in 2001. I went for Cave In, but my mind was absolutely blown by the other two; it’s not a stretch at all to claim that that show forever altered the trajectory of my musical tastes.
For those too young to remember or just not in the know: Old Man Gloom features members of Isis, Converge and Cave In. Yow!
Since yesterday, a whole bunch more Old Man Gloom tour dates have leaked out, suggesting this tour is actually a really real thing. Check it out:
05/03 Allston, MA – Great Scott (feat. All Pigs Must Die)
05/04 Philadelphia, PA – First Unitarian Church (feat. Rosetta)
05/05 Richmond, VA – Strange Matter (feat. Iron Reagan, Balaclava)
05/06 Baltimore, MD – The Ottobar
05/07 Hamden, CT – The Space
05/08 Brooklyn, NY – Europa (feat. The Austerity Program, Psychic Limb
Given the crazy scheduled of the “day job” bands of all the members of Old Man Gloom, it’s not surprising it’s taken so long to make this happen. Let’s just hope this isn’t an elaborate fake-out like the stunt Kurt Ballou pulled last year.
