THE FACELESS ARE KIND OF SORT OF MAYBE ACTUALLY RECORDING A NEW ALBUM!
The Faceless are one of those bands who are perpetually saying a new album is coming soon, only to then fade from the public’s memory until they pop up again several months later and repeat the process (heyo Necrophagist!). It’s now been almost 3.5 years since they released Planetary Duality, and by the time it comes out it’ll have been nearly four (or more) even under an optimistic timeline. But it’ll be worth it! Right? Planetary Duality was such a masterpiece that we can only surmise band mastermind / porn-star banger Michael Keene is tinkering and tinkering Chinese Democracy-style because he feels the pressure to deliver a stellar follow-up!
It finally seems as if things might be lurching forward once more; Keene just posted a studio update video featuring a tour of his studio, some guitar tracking, brief clips of at least one new song, and a fantastically Jason Newstedian new haircut.
The last such update we received from The Faceless was in the form of a pre-production demo called “The Eidolon Reality” in May of 2011, the YouTube bumper screen of which promises that a new album is “coming this fall.” Whoops. But studio updates are obviously a sign that music is actually being recorded — it’s possible the album is even already completely done and the band / their label are releasing these studio vids retroactively — so that’s encouraging news. Let’s hope for new Faceless before 2012 is out.
Meanwhile, don’t forget that The Faceless are touring on a brief MetalSucks-sponsored trek with Dying Fetus, Goatwhore, Volumes and Last Chance to Reason this coming March.
